Hiring in Peak Season
With all the news, posts and stories that we’re hearing it may feel like hiring is the last thing people will be doing this fall, but even through layoffs hiring continues. Reorganizing teams and proper workforce planning always leads to the opening of new roles, summer ending means turnover is higher — add in change of work environment (on site/hybrid/remote) and this fall is anticipated to be busier than usual. With the volume of new candidates hitting the market looking for work it can become overwhelming quickly!
Here are some tried and true tips & tricks to stay on top of your hiring this fall…
HOW TO MAKE PEAK HIRING PERIODS SEAMLESS!
Before posting a role be sure you can answer the following
What are we hiring this person to solve?
How will this person show success in this role?
What key traits are we looking for in this candidate that the rest of our team is lacking?
10 business day rule - from the first phone screen to offer should take no more than 10 business days
Communication - even if you have no update yet, update your candidates
Talk money/perks early - no reason to waste everyone’s time just to have an offer rejected
Structured Interviews - scorecards, organized stages - all of these pieces help hiring move more quickly and ensure equitability across interviews
Keep your ATS up to date - this should be your single source of truth at all times
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Great candidate experiences helps with smoother onboarding
Organized hiring practices helps relieve any extra burden on the hiring teams
Solid hiring practices create equitable hiring practices which allow your top candidates to shine clearly through the crowds
Often times we think when the market is flooded with candidates we don’t need that extra help, but it’s usually the opposite as the volume to dig through and the ability to find the diamonds in the rough is at its most challenging. As always we’re here to help when you need it!
